We have developed a substantial volume of business in the species Guatambu, a light colored, dense species from the temperate forests of Paraguay. This wood has mechanical properties comparable to hard maple, but for a much lower price.
One popular plywood we have is 7/16” (11.1mm) Unidirectional Guatambu for drawersides. Having the grain of all the plies running in the same direction allows the fabricator to machine the top edge of the drawer smoothly, without the stripey appearance or fuzziness of conventional cross-plied plywood. And the multiple thin (1/18” or 1.3mm) layers of veneer fiver the look of close-grained solid lumber.
The stock sizes of this plywood are 63”x86.5”L and 31.5”x86.5”L. We keep an inventory of this wood in High Point.
