Bedrail Plywood and Finished Bedrails

Bedrail Plywood and Finished Bedrails

The mechanical properties of the species Guatambu make it a huge improvement over Yellow Poplar or, worse, Chinese Poplar when the end use is bedrails, the sides of beds which hold the headboard and footboard together and support the mattress, boxsprings and the occupants. Also, most bedrails are attached with hooks which are held by two pins, which puts a lot of stress on a very small area of the plywood.

We at Gross Veneer Sales sell what is absolutely the best plywood in the world for bedrails. It is made of multiple thin (1/18 or 1.3mm) plies of Guatambu. The two plies immediately under the face veneers are turned short-grain to increase stability and to prevent checking. All the rest of the plies are long-grain, which is the strongest construction to hold the bedhooks. That construction also means that the top edge of the bedrail can be sanded and finished without the expense of edgebanding.

We have two thicknesses of bedrail plywood available, 13/16 (20.6mm) and 15/16 (23.8mm), and the panels are 48x86.5L.

If you prefer to buy your bedrails already custom-finished, boxed and ready to ship, we gladly refer you to our affiliate company, United Finishers, Inc. Finished bedrails are their primary product.
